Bio-Trickling Filters

Depending on the required outlet odour concentration a stand-alone Bio-trickling filter, or a multi stage process can be supplied to provide a process which is simple to operate and maintain and removes any requirement for chemical dosing and storage.

The bio-trickling technology is usually selected when the odorous air stream has a high concentration of hydrogen sulphide.

The odorous air passes through a moist bed of bio-support media which acts as a host for a layer of biofilm. Microorganisms, bacteria and fungi, populate the biofilm and produce sulphuric acid as a by-product in the removal of hydrogen sulphide, hence the pH of the liquor leaving the process is acidic. Other metabolic by-products also have t be purged from the system.
